Yes, antidepressants are quite expensive (I'm not sure if there is a country difference, but Effexor here doesn't cost AS MUCH without insurance, but if you need the medication, why not opt for a generic? Instead of Effexor, you can take Venlor (the generic) - it works the same, but a fraction of the cost.
